Nate has been an environmental consultant for most of his adult life. He has worked with riparian vegetation and wetlands throughout the United States for over 20 years. After getting his BS degree from Eastern Michigan University, he started his career working on the lakes of Michigan. He then moved on to Iowa for a few years but eventually settled in Logan, Utah, where he worked for a local environmental firm for 8 years before starting his own consulting firm, Balance Environmental in 2008. Nate has worked on both the establishment and monitoring of large-scale stream restoration projects like the Provo River and Diamond Fork in central Utah.
Through his work, he quickly developed an interest in how beaver build wetlands and enhance riparian vegetation. When he found out that there was a group at Utah State University doing this kind of work he quickly volunteered to assist and has been eagerly looking for ways to team with Anabranch ever since.
Nate has long had an appetite for adventure. Whenever there’s a chance, you’ll find him shredding the local ski hill or climbing a mountain. He once learned to row whitewater by taking a boat down the Grand Canyon. However, lately he and his wife Vonda are enjoying the adventure of being grandparents.
